Marnina Norys started teaching medical ethics at York University after earning her PhD in Social Political Thought, an interdisciplinary program also at York. Her 2014 dissertation “Sources of Error” described the rationalization of health care and provided an ethical analysis of this trend in medicine. Her analysis was based, in part, on an ethnography of an Assertive Community Treatment team. She also earned a MA in Philosophy from the University of Western Ontario and a double major in Philosophy and Communications (BA) from Simon Fraser University. As the daughter of a nurse and a psychiatrist, Marnina’s life has been steeped in issues related to health care. Her interests in clinical ethics are varied and include psychiatric ethics, devising ways of counteracting cognitive biases during ethical decision-making, and practical applications of care-based ethics.
